Yeesookyung
Translated Vase series is made from discarded ceramic shards originally rejected by master ceramists for minor flaws. Yeesookyung carefully reassembles the fragments and fills the cracks with 24K gold, playing on the Korean word “geum,” meaning both “gold” and “crack.” Each sculpture grows into a unique form, blending cultural influences from Korea, China, Japan, and Italy.
Translated Vase_When Will I See You Again_2025, created for the Taipei Biennial 2025, was inspired by a replica of the Pottery figure of a lady playing polo game in sancai tri-color glaze from the National Palace Museum’s collection. It reflects a reverence for preserved ceramics and the longing embodied in replicas — each carrying the impossible desire to become the original.
Yeesookyung uses broken pieces to create sculptures that tell new stories. Her work is about healing and sharing ideas between different cultures
