Álvaro Urbano
Álvaro Urbano’s sculptural installation TABLEAU VIVANT transforms the space into a theatrical setting. Light plays a central role, making objects appear like visions or ghostly figures. For the 14th Taipei Biennial, he incorporated selected pieces from the Taipei Fine Arts Museum’s collection into the installation. He staged the museum objects in a carefully controlled environment where overlapping stories and shifting identities emerge. By using light as a compositional element, Urbano shifts the focus—presenting artworks not just as objects, but as figures that appear within a specific story.
Comparable to theater or film, Urbano’s works resemble silent scenes or fragments of stories. He often combines different materials and art forms to create dreamlike and mysterious environments.
