Whispers  on  the  Horizon
地平線上的低吟
born in 1916, Taoyuan - died in 2011

White lilies bloom against deep shadow, their shapes edged by reversed light. In Chinese, the lily (“Bei-He”) carries wishes of lasting union and purity — blessings that seem to defy time itself.
Experimenting with solarization and photomicrography, LIN Shou-Yi transformed photography into a meditation on change. Light becomes both subject and passage — fleeting, elusive, tender. Born in Taoyuan, he began as a traveling portraitist before turning to more experimental forms. His lilies seem to yearn for stillness while knowing they cannot hold it — an image of harmony suspended, radiant for a moment before dissolving back into light.

Three Flowers, 1946, Japanese negative on bromide paper, 22.5 × 29.4 cm, Collection of Taipei Fine Arts Museum.
