Korakrit Arunanondchai
Korakrit Arunanondchai’s Love after Death is a film installation that explores time, loss, and renewal through memory and dreams. It combines elements from two earlier works: a multimedia installation made for the Bangkok Kunsthalle, located in a printing factory that closed down due to a fire, and scenes from a film shot in an abandoned cinema in Lopburi, Thailand—now inhabited by monkeys believed to be the town's ancestral spirit.
The new film takes the form of a horror tale, centered on a mythical monkey that turns ash into gold. Light, sound, and mechanical effects transform the room into a vessel for ritual and possession, with the film projected onto a transparent screen to create a ghostly presence.
Arunanondchai’s work creates a universe of stories shaped by memory, the problematic consequences of colonization, and today’s global crises.
