Jacky Connolly
born in 1990, Lower Hudson Valley, New York - lives and works in Athens, New York
With The Mineral Kingdom (Dark Green), Jacky Connolly reflects on memory, transformation, and the afterlife of images.
Two wall screens, one high and one low, are attached to the sides of a large scaffolding. LED lights glow from within the scaffold’s metal bars. The films take us through surreal landscapes—between sky and the underworld. The journey begins in an abandoned winter landscape and leads us underground. This video work is a tribute to a lost friend of the artist.
Connolly uses outdated computer graphics, photographs, and visuals inspired by 1990s children’s books and video games to turn private memories into poetic, virtual spaces. These digital elements evoke both nostalgia and the passage of time.
