Whispers  on  the  Horizon
地平線上的低吟

Isaac Chong Wai

born in 1990, Guangdong - lives and works in Berlin and Hong Kong

Isaac Chong Wai’s Touched: A Better Tomorrow is a series of etched glass and mirror panels that show the marks left by the artist’s own body. Impressions left by skin contact—like brushstrokes—form ghostly, fragmented figures on the surface of the panels. Inspired by the film A Better Tomorrow, the work draws on its film stills linked to Taipei and the artist’s childhood memories of Hong Kong.
In Rehearsed, Mirrored, the artist etches into mirrored glass, using a cutout aesthetic. Chong’s engraved glass panels show arms lifting a body, or a dancer in a falling posture. Layered lines and shifting reflections blur the figures into abstraction and motion. Drawing from his own rehearsal material, the work imagines a fragile balance.
Isaac Chong Wai uses a wide range of artistic media—including glass, video, performance, and installation—to transform emotions and memories born from human interactions into art.
