A group of Atayal indigenous people from Hualien County lives a life of modern nomads, dwelling at a constantly changing series of workplaces. They sell their physical energy, and their lives. They have not given up living, but they also seem unable to find a route of escape.This group of people on the margins of society, using simple ropes as protective devices, dangle on precipitous cliff faces. Their work is to spray reinforcing material on the mountainous cliffs that easily crumble. Because they frequently hang on the sides of mountains for their work, some people refer to them as "Taiwan's spidermen."
