Nasan Tur studied at the Academy of Art Städelschule Frankfurt. He lives and works in Berlin. Tur uses photography, video, installation, performance and interventions to investigate behavioural patterns and the influence of political actions in the public space. His works are propositions to imagine and realise the implausible, when the daily routine of things becomes interrupted or expanded ad infinitum: for example Tur has made a roulette wheel that never stops spinning; a video called The puddle and the blue sky where a young man floats in a puddle of rain water, while ignoring the cars passing him by; a photograph titled Hauptwache, which captures the bewilderment of the public crowd, at the moment when someone member of the crowd screams out loud without obvious reason. In a recent work Ich euch schon immer sagen wollte, Tur invited people to use a microphone, placed in a gallery window overlooking a busy street, to preach their personal views to the public. In a sense, many of his works act as tool for people to communicate in the public space, sometimes consciously and on other occasions unwittingly.
In recent years Nasan Tur has participated in exhibitions at the Martin-Gropius-Bau, 2005, Berlin; Badisches Landesmuseum, 2006, Karlsruhe; Culture Center Belgrad, 2006; the 10th International Istanbul Biennial, 2007; Galerija Nova, 2007, Zagreb; and The Nicosia Municipal Arts Center, 2007, Cyprus. In 2006 he won the J.W. Hector Artprize.
