John Jordan’s work merges the imagination of art and the social engagement of politics. Utilising the transformative power of art, he applies creativity directly to social movements, acts of rebellion and disobedience. The central concern of his practice is to work with social movements as material. Jordan was co-director of the social practice art group Platform from 1987-1995 and was a co-Founder of the cultural resistance collective Reclaim the Streets from 1995-2000. In 2003 Jordan co-edited the book 'We Are Everywhere: the Irresistible Rise of Global Anticapitalism'. After experiencing the popular uprisings in Argentina in 2001 he worked on the film 'The Take' with Naomi Klein. In 2002 he set up the 'Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army' which toured the UK leading up to the 2005 G8 summit in Scotland, and is now part of the iconography of the alter-globalisation movement. Jordan has written and lectured extensively about the space between art and activism, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona and at Tate Modern, London.
